RESIDENCY

  • The applicant must have lived in Dallas County for at least one year.

NEED

  • Applicant’s family must demonstrate financial need and be unable to qualify for a conventional/other mortgage

  • Family must demonstrate need for a home. Reasons can include present home conditions, crowding conditions (living with extended family), accessibility issues and /or undesirable neighborhood.

ABILITY TO MAKE PAYMENTS

  • At least one year of employment and proof of steady employment. If you have less than six months with your current employer, Habitat will consider your length of employment with previous employers and consistent employment in the same field. 

  • Other verifiable stable monthly income will also be considered.  

  • Your annual gross income must meet the income guidelines (listed below​)

FAMILY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Applicants must have the ability to make monthly mortgage payments ($300-$500 per month depending on house size and location). Payments include zero (0%) interest, principal, and escrow for taxes and insurance.

  • No outstanding liens or judgments

  • Have not declared bankruptcy in the last 2 years

WILLING TO BE A PARTNER

  • The applicant must be willing to partner with Habitat and complete 250 – 500 “sweat equity” hours of labor, building his/her home, working on another Habitat project home or other assigned hours.  Up to half of these required hours can be completed by friends or family.
