This Thanksgiving, the YMCA building in Buffalo, Mo., was filled with warmth, laughter, and the incredible spirit of service as Dallas County Habitat for Humanity hosted its 24th Annual Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner. And at the heart of it all were the volunteers who showed up—bright and early, with big smiles—to make the day special for hundreds of neighbors.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., thanks to our amazing team, more than 700 hot, home-cooked meals found their way to dining tables, car windows, and front porches throughout the community. Whether guests chose to sit down and enjoy the welcoming dining space, roll through the smooth drive-through, or receive a delivery right to their door, every plate was prepared and served with genuine care.

This celebration simply wouldn’t happen without the generosity and teamwork of so many. Local businesses and Habitat supporters donated funds for 40+ turkeys and all the trimmings, while a crew of talented local bakers filled the dessert cart with irresistible homemade treats. But the true magic came from the more than 60 volunteers who gave a piece of their holiday to serve others.

Some volunteers spent the week leading up to the event chopping, baking, seasoning, and prepping. Others were up past midnight setting tables and arranging chairs. The Sheriff’s Posse kept the drive-through running like clockwork. And dozens more welcomed guests, carried meals, delivered food around town, and brought a friendly face to everyone they met.

Their dedication turned a meal into a moment of connection and comfort. As one volunteer put it, “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else on Thanksgiving Day.” That joy, that sense of purpose, is what makes this tradition so special.
To every volunteer who showed up, pitched in, and shared their heart—thank you.
You are the reason this community feast continues to grow, and you’re the reason so many families felt the warmth of Thanksgiving this year.
We are grateful for you—today and every day.
