This new building project will once more unite committed volunteers, students from the Dallas County Technical Center’s Construction Technology program, and the Buffalo community. Over the next two years, this partnership will convert the empty lot at 419 E. Benton Street into a safe, clean and comfortable home for a family in need.
A Joint Effort to Build More Than Just a House

This project is more than a building effort; it is a community coming together to provide stability and growth. Habitat for Humanity’s mission focuses on affordable homeownership for families who meet specific income and need qualifications. The selected partner family will not only purchase the home at an affordable price but also invest time and effort into the building process.
Volunteers from the local community play a vital role in this process. They organize fundraisers, donate materials, and lend their labor to keep costs low and the project moving forward. The partnership with the Dallas County Technical Center adds an exciting educational dimension, giving students hands-on experience in construction while contributing to a meaningful cause.
Dallas County Technical Center Students Contribute
The involvement of Construction Technology students from the Dallas County Technical Center is a key feature of this project. These students apply classroom knowledge to real-world building tasks, learning everything from framing walls to installing roofing and siding. This experience prepares them for future careers in construction trades while helping the community.

Students work under the supervision of an experienced instructor, ensuring safety and quality. The two-year timeline allows for steady progress, balancing school schedules and volunteer availability. This approach benefits everyone: students gain real skills, Habitat increases it's volunteer labor force and the partner family receives a well-built home.
Fundraising and Local Support Drive the Project
As you know, building a home requires significant financial resources. Habitat depends on the generosity of donors and the energy of volunteers to raise funds. Events such as two annual rummage sales and community dinners help gather money for materials and expert labor as needed. Donors can support the project in various ways:
Monetary donations for building materials or professional labor
Professional services - donation of labor and/or equipment
Donation of building materials or items for rummage sales
Volunteering on build days or fundraising events
Every contribution, big or small, moves the project closer to completion. This collective effort reflects the community’s commitment to helping families achieve stable housing.

The Impact of Affordable Homeownership for Buffalo
Affordable homeownership changes lives and strengthens communities. It provides families with stability, security, and a place to raise families and build memories. It also sets an example of how education, volunteerism, and community support can come together to solve local problems.
