Food and Fireworks

Dallas County Habitat for Humanity was excited to join the 250th American Birthday Celebration hosted by the City of Buffalo at City Park. Even with temperatures climbing above 90 degrees, the free Friday afternoon and evening event drew a wonderful crowd. Guests enjoyed live music, games, fireworks, festival food, and plenty of community spirit.
Last year, Habitat acquired a large used food trailer that needed some care, cleaning, repairs, and maintenance. Thanks to countless volunteer hours, the trailer was transformed into something we hoped would become a reliable fundraiser for our mission. This celebration marked its very first time in service, and our enthusiastic, can-do volunteers—guided by a few experienced professionals—jumped right into the food trailer business with energy and confidence.
The day went smoothly, and volunteers served plenty of delicious grilled hot dogs, brats, and nachos to a hungry and appreciative crowd.
One of the biggest hits of the day was the Snow Cone table. With so many fun flavors to choose from, the cool treats quickly attracted long lines of children and adults. A special thank-you goes to Andrea Gann and Kayla Bencsek for organizing and serving the Snow Cones. It was a long, hot day, but you helped make a lot of kids very happy.
We are also grateful to LeRoy and Suzanne Laudenbach, our food service experts, for their help with planning, organization, and operations. A successful food trailer takes a lot of knowledgeable preparation, and their guidance helped everything run smoothly.
We also received a generous donation from longtime Habitat supporters Joe and Trinity Carver of Joe’s Hardware. They supplied all the ice for the Snow Cones and for keeping drinks cold throughout the event, which made a big difference on such a warm day.

It was a fantastic event and a true community celebration. The City of Buffalo did a wonderful job organizing the festivities, and we are so thankful to every Habitat volunteer who helped make the day a success. It was definitely a Fourth of July to remember!
